About:
Donald C. Horne, CLU®, CFP®, AIF®, is a principal of Pioneer Financial Group, a Financial Advisor, and has served as the firm’s Vice President since its founding in 1999. Don is an entrepreneur who specializes in the Financial Services Industry.
Leading through a process of education and planning, Don’s primary focus is his personal financial planning practice. He works with his clients to develop sound strategies for today and into the future. He challenges his clients to take the time through the financial planning process to discover the things that are most important to them. Along the way, he identifies strategies to help maximize the choices they have in life and to minimize risks and the potential for loss.
Following the planning process, for many clients, the journey continues when Don takes on his role as an investment advisor. Acting in a fiduciary capacity, he develops diversified portfolios tailored to his clients taking into account important considerations like risk tolerance, time horizon, and liquidity/income needs. Along the way, he is also taking the time to review tax strategies and create efficient distribution plans for his clients as they need supplemental income to live the lifestyles they’ve worked so diligently to prepare for once they retire.
Continuing education has always been part of Don’s philosophy both as an advisor as well as a community leader. He is also a member of the Financial Services Institute (FSI).
Don conducts educational seminars as part of his financial advisor practice and offers a six-hour retirement planning class held at the University of Rhode Island. The retirement planning class has brought retirement planning strategies to many in the southern Rhode Island community for over 15 years.
Don volunteers for the Special Olympics and is a contributor to other charitable organizations. He is also the President of the Lisa Rego Horne Memorial Foundation, a 501(c)3 established in 2017 following his late wife’s courageous fight against Lymphoma.
Don completed five modules and a two- and one-half day comprehensive exam to earn his Certified Financial Planner certification from American College. In addition, Don has earned his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation and his Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) professional designation, awarded by the Center for Fiduciary Studies, which is associated with the University of Pittsburgh. Through the AIF® designation, he has received formal training in investment fiduciary responsibility.
Don resides in Westerly, Rhode Island with his wife, Julie-Ann and his two children, Maya and Charlie.
